At the upcoming Composites and Materials Exposition (CAMX), industrial minerals producer Omya (Cincinnati, Ohio, U.S.) is featuring its latest lightweight mineral offering specifically tailored for the cultured marble and polymer concrete market, the Omyasphere 300 series.
According to the company, Omyasphere 300 reduces weight by up to 40% in cultured marble and polymer concrete applications at the same volume of finished product. As a result, the reduction capability is said to offer formulators a sustainable solution in reducing formulation and transportation cost while producing an easier-to-handle finished product. From a cost-volume perspective, Omya says, Omyasphere 300 has the potential to reduce cost in cultured marble and polymer concrete applications while at the same time maintaining impact strength and dimensional stability with no effect on cure time.
The Omyasphere 300 grades have reportedly been developed with precise particle size distributions and coatings tailored to different resin types to reduce absorption and improve matrix viscosity.
