Martin Marietta Composites

Martin Marietta Composites has developed blast resistant composite panels combining two unique 3D technologies for superior performance.

Unlike conventional steel and aluminum panels, these 3D composite panels are:

  • Light weight
  • Corrosion resistant
  • Easy-to-install

Blast panels are constructed with Martin Marietta Composites proprietary panel technology, TRANSONITE® using 3D woven fabrics. TRANSONITE is a pultruded 3D, reinforced composite “sandwich” consisting of fiber-reinforced polymer (FRP) laminates and a foam core. The top and bottom face skins are supported by and tied together with through-thickness fibers giving TRANSONITE its high strength and durability. The FRP laminates are made of multiple plies of 3TEX’s patented 3WEAVE™ technology. 3WEAVE™ has “Z” fibers woven through the fabric thickness. These high-strength 3D laminates provide superior damage tolerance in a light weight panel. TRANSONITE blast panels can be used in new and existing construction.

Applications include:

  • Government buildings
  • Correctional facilities
  • High-risk retail
  • Court rooms
  • Bank cashier counters
  • Post offices

TRANSONITE blast panels have been tested to withstand five pounds of C4 at 36 inches.

Martin Marietta Composites can provide a custom-designed TRANSONITE panel to meet your specific threat. Along with varying skin thickness and fiber insertion densities, panels can also be manufactured to specific dimensions up to 102 inches wide and in any length desired.
